What do Lutherans believe?
Lutherans hold many beliefs in common with the other mainline Christian denominations.
We believe in the Triune God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that God created the whole world and everything in it.
We believe that human beings are created in the image of God and loved by God.
We believe that human beings have rejected God and entered a state of sin.
We believe that God sent his Son Jesus into the world to live, die and rise again for us.
We believe that through Jesus, God offers forgiveness, life and salvation to those who believe.
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God and the authority for our faith and life.
We believe that God's grace comes to us in the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.
We believe that Christian worship is a central part of the Christian life.
We also hold to the ancient creeds of the church (Apsotles, Nicene and Athanasian) and our own Lutheran Confessions contained in the Book of Concord of 1580.
